Day 1 – Arrival & Evening in Medellín
We arrived in Medellín in the evening after our flight from Cartagena and the island. Since we were tired from travel, we kept it simple:
- Checked into our accommodation in El Poblado, one of the best neighborhoods for first-time visitors thanks to its walkability, restaurants, and nightlife.
- 👉 I recommend staying in El Poblado or Laureles for easy access to cafes, tours, and transportation.
- Strolled around El Poblado to get a feel for the city
- Grabbed a casual dinner nearby (try Café Zorba for pizza or a local street food snack)
Evening was relaxed, perfect to recover from travel and prepare for the next day of adventures.
Day 2 – Comuna 13 & City Highlights
Start the day with a visit to Comuna 13, one of Medellín’s most iconic neighborhoods. Once known for its challenges, it’s now full of vibrant street art, music, and community energy. A guided tour helps you understand the history and admire the murals.

If it’s your first time visiting Comuna 13, I highly recommend joining a guided tour to better understand the neighborhood’s history, street art, and cultural transformation. Most tours also include local guides, hidden viewpoints, music, and food stops.
Other highlights for the day:
- Plaza Botero – see Fernando Botero’s oversized sculptures
- Museo de Antioquia – mix of art and history
- Take the cable cars for panoramic views of the city
Dinner suggestions:
- Alambique – Colombian fusion cuisine
- La Pampa Parrilla Argentina – casual and filling
Day 3 – Parque Arví Nature Escape
Take a morning cable car to Parque Arví, Medellín’s expansive ecological nature park. Spend a few hours walking the trails, enjoying the fresh air, and spotting local birds.
You can also visit the local markets near the park entrance for snacks or handmade crafts. This is a perfect way to balance city adventures with a bit of nature.

Day 4 – Day Trip to Guatapé & Piedra del Peñol
A full-day trip to Guatapé is a must. Famous for its colorful streets and the massive Piedra del Peñol rock, it’s an Instagram-worthy adventure.
Plan your day like this:
- Take an early bus or private tour from Medellín
- Climb the rock — the panoramic views are incredible
- Explore Guatapé’s streets, cafes, and local shops
- Have lunch at a local spot in town
- Return to Medellín in the evening
Tips:
- Bring cash for the bus and small shops. We made the mistake of forgetting cash and didn’t have our passports for the money exchange but luckily a photo was accepted!
- Wear comfortable shoes for climbing the rock

If you prefer not to organize transportation yourself, below are some highly rated tours that will provide the easiest ways to visit Guatapé and Piedra del Peñol in one day.
Day 5 – Early Departure
We had an early flight out, so there wasn’t time for activities. Make sure to arrange transportation in advance and plan breakfast or coffee if needed.
